The group is believed to have been on its way back from Niassa province when it was attacked by the R698 highway

At least twelve suspected insurgents, belonging to a group returning from Niassa province, were killed on Tuesday 3 June, when they were attacked by Mozambican forces at the R698 highway between the towns of Nairoto and Intele, in Cabo Delgado province’s Montepuez district.

Sources told Zitamar News that the attack on the insurgents took place at noon, in an area near the Messalo river, where they were preparing a meal.
