Good afternoon. News broke yesterday afternoon that the government had “recommended” to the National Institute of Telecommunications of Mozambique (INCM), the telecoms regulator, to suspend the mobile phone tariffs it introduced earlier this month. As we have noted before, the tariffs have significantly increased the cost of mobile phone usage, including Internet access, by banning the use of unlimited service packages.

💥 Insurgents attacked the village of Mbau in the Mocímboa da Praia district of Cabo Delgado province this morning. The attack was resisted by Rwandan security forces based in the village. Insurgents also set up a roadblock on the N380 highway between the villages of Chinda and Awasse in southern Mocímboa da Praia. No further details have been confirmed so far. Yesterday, a small group of insurgents were reported firing shots in the village of Naquiero just south of Mocímboa da Praia town.
