Insurgents regroup in Quissanga after southern incursion

Insurgents are likely making their way back toward their traditional stronghold of Macomia district

Islamist insurgents in Cabo Delgado have returned to familiar territory in the district of Quissanga, in the centre of the coastal region of the province, having apparently ended a period of activity in southern districts.

Local sources have reported repeated sightings of armed groups across the district since early June, suggesting that insurgents are trying to move back toward positions in neighbouring Macomia, while using agricultural areas in Quissanga to obtain food. Sources reported armed groups moving between Ancuabe, Bilibiza, Cagembe, Mucojo and Namuaco, with some groups carrying large quantities of food.
