At least nine Mozambican navy personnel are feared dead after a vessel sank off Cabo Delgado province during a night patrol on 18 June, local sources say.

The vessel, which had previously been implicated in at least two incidents of the military killing fishermen off the Cabo Delgado coast, went down in the channel between Matemo and Ibo islands as it returned from a patrol mission on Matemo Island. The exact number of personnel on board remains unclear, although several sources said at least 11 members of the navy were aboard.
