Small groups of suspected insurgents have been reported moving through three districts of Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado province in recent weeks, prompting fear among residents but undertaking no confirmed attacks, according to local sources.
The sightings follow an ambush on a military escort along the Macomia–Awasse stretch of the EN380 highway in late February that forced authorities to close the road for a week.
