A water tanker operated by the Mozambican military crashed into a market in the Napulubo neighbourhood of Macomia, in Cabo Delgado province, on Thursday, killing the driver and a young boy and injuring several others.

The driver was apparently drunk at the time of the crash, according to witnesses who said the tanker was speeding and swerving out of control before it hit the market.

The impact of the crash destroyed several stalls, injured several people, and killed the driver and a young boy selling goods at the market.

Most of the other injured victims were taken to a local health centre for treatment, while some were taken to Pemba. Their conditions are not yet known.

"We don't know how many people are injured, but we have buried one child here in the neighbourhood,” one Napulubo resident told *Zitamar*, adding that the driver was very drunk.

This is the third accident involving military vehicles in Macomia in less than four months. In February, a drunk soldier crashed an armoured vehicle into a ditch in Macomia town, injuring several people. In March, a police vehicle crashed near Nova Zambézia in Macomia district, killing three people and injuring six others.
