Ruling party Frelimo’s list of parliamentary candidates reflects a familiar mixture of rewards and punishments

Good afternoon. The list of parliamentary candidates for ruling party Frelimo is a good indicator of who in the party has been deemed worthy of favour, and who is being punished. Although candidates are nominally chosen by activists in the provinces whose list they appear on, Frelimo’s Political Commission makes its preferences known to the provinces in advance.
