South32 finds new owner for aluminium plants — except Mozal

Alcoa’s multi-billion dollar purchase of the Australian group’s aluminium portfolio leaves Mozal's future unresolved, as South32 retains Mozambique smelter

US aluminium producer Alcoa has agreed to acquire most of South32's global aluminium business in a deal worth up to $5.6bn, but Mozambique's Mozal aluminium smelter has been excluded from the transaction, leaving the future ownership of one of the country's largest industrial assets unresolved.
