The authorities want to hold Venancio Mondlane responsible for the post-election chaos, apparently without recognising the fundamental reasons behind it

Good morning, and our apologies for the delay in sending yesterday’s newsletter. On Tuesday, opposition politician Venâncio Mondlane was finally told which crimes he is accused of, after about three months of hearings at the Attorney General's Office (PGR) regarding post-election demonstrations. According to the indictment, Mondlane is charged with five crimes, including incitement to terrorism, incitement to collective disobedience, and public incitement to commit a crime.

💥 The village of Chiúre-Velho, in the southern Cabo Delgado district of Chiúre, came under attack from insurgents this morning, multiple sources have told Zitamar News. The attack is consistent with a move southward by the insurgents, that we reported on yesterday.

The charges are based on Mondlane's repeated calls on social media for his supporters to protest against the election results. But those demonstrations were fundamentally motivated by fraud in favour of the ruling party Frelimo in the October 2024 general elections. The fraud was documented by the press, some civil society organisations, as well as international observers, including the European Union.
