Eni’s Mozambican well failure spoils hopes for East African oil find

The $37m drilling contract has not resulted in the discovery of any new oilfields

Oil and gas concession blocks off central Mozambique, showing amongst others block A5-A, where Eni drilled the Raia-1 well; block A5-B, operated by ExxonMobil; and blocks Z5-C and Z5-D, which ExxonMobil handed back to the state last year. Blocks with a number 6 were awarded in the sixth bidding round (source: National Petroleum Institute)
