Inside the government’s negotiations over Mozal and Kenmare

Ministers have obtained improved terms with miner Kenmare Resources, but not without compromise, while an agreement over Mozal’s power price remains elusive

The Mozal aluminium smelter is a drain on revenues that the Mozambican state could be earning from power sales. That, at any rate, is the opinion of a source close to the negotiations between Mozal’s majority owner, Australian metal producer South32, and the government-appointed commission negotiating with it over a new power supply contract.
