TotalEnergies’ role in death of British contractor unlikely to be considered in inquest

The coroner investigating the death of Philip Mawer said he would order TotalEnergies to provide information about the insurgent attack on Palma in March 2021, but was not expecting to consider if they were liable for his death

The coroner leading the inquest into the death of Philip Mawer, a British national killed in the Islamic State-backed assault on the town of Palma in March 2021, told a hearing yesterday that he was not likely to explore the French energy giant TotalEnergies’ liability in Mawer’s death. However, he is set to direct the company to produce a statement explaining its security responsibilities during the attack.
