LNG project costs soar as Total considers Mozambique restart

Consultancy Rystad Energy estimates the cost of new onshore LNG projects has risen by up to 25% since TotalEnergies reached financial close on the Area 1 project

The cost of onshore liquified natural gas (LNG) projects has increased by between 22% and 25% since 2020, experts say, while TotalEnergies insists it will not restart its Mozambique LNG project if costs have risen since the contract to build the project was signed in 2019.
