New setbacks for Celso Correia

The loss of a mayoral candidate and corruption allegations threaten the minister's path to the presidency

Good afternoon. We have an update today on the political situation in the city of Nampula, where Frelimo has selected a new candidate to run for mayor, replacing the provincial governor who refused to run for the city mayor — a smaller job, and an election he ran a real risk of losing.

When we covered this story last week, we focused in part on the implications for Frelimo’s election campaign manager, and head of mobilisation in Nampula, the agriculture minister Celso Correia. Well, if part of Celso’s puzzle has now fallen into place, more problems keep arising.
